Wisdom

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind." -- James 1:5-6

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths” -- Proverbs 3:5-6

"How much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" -- Matthew 7:11

These verses are my prayers lately.

Sunset

Tampa had some great sunrises. Monterey has some amazing sunsets.

Science will never be able to reduce the value of a sunset to arithmetic. Nor can it reduce friendship to formula. Laughter and love, pain and loneliness, the challenge of beauty and truth: these will always surpass the scientific mastery of nature.--Louis Orr (speech to the American Medical Association, 6/6/60)

“Some may try and tell us that this is the end of an era. But what they overlook is that in America, every day is a new beginning, and every sunset is merely the latest milestone on a voyage that never ends. For this is the land that has never become, but is always in the act of becoming. Emerson was right: America is the land of tomorrow.”

Photo Ops

I'm loving the camera in my Android, and I've had some great photo opportunities to try it out lately:

Some baseball stadiums are better than others...

The Central Coast is absolutely gorgeous...

And finally, these cows have the BEST view:

Videos

Donald Miller's blog pointed me to vimeo.com. I particularly like their "video school" lessons. My hope is to make a video snippet of my thesis work someday. Since that's a LONG way off, I have still plenty of time to learn about video editing.

Holy Week

Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday.

Holy week is always full of emotions. I cannot even begin to imagine what it must have been like 2000 years ago. Oh how the Father must love us to put His Son through such an ordeal. May we reflect on that this Easter and truly realize how privileged we are to be called Children of God.

We sang 2 of my favorite songs, fitting for Holy Week and good songs for reflection and guitar practing:

Hosanna by Hillsong (video)
I see the King of glory
Coming on the clouds with fire
The whole earth shakes, the whole earth shakes
I see His love and mercy
Washing over all our sin
The people sing, the people sing

[Chorus]
Hosanna, hosanna
Hosanna in the highest (x2)

I see a generation
Rising up to take their place
With selfless faith, with selfless faith
I see a near revival
Stirring as we pray and seek
We're on our knees, we're on our knees

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like You have loved me
Break my heart for what breaks Yours
Everything I am for Your Kingdom's cause
As I walk from earth into eternity

How Deep The Father's Love For Us (video)
How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocing voice,
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I knoww that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast inJesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
