So, I've been in debates lately about whether God "wants us to be happy". Personally, I think it's a ridiculous question because it looks at a resulting emotion, instead of a motive or source. I think God cares more about why we do things and what our motives are than he does about how we feel. Yes, God cares about how we feel, he does not want us to be miserable, but I don't know that he necessarily *wants* us to be happy. I guess my point is summed up in the quote I found:
"God doesn't want us to be happy...He wants us to be obedient. He knows, and we can learn, that obedience brings happiness...but it's secondary.”
