I love music. Sometimes the lyrics of an artist give me insight to my own life and situations. It reminds me that we are all human and we all face the same problems, regardless of our culture or our history. Every human has needs. Everyone seeks to fill those needs. The difference is in how we fill those needs and what we fill those needs with. Christians realize that ONLY God can fill our needs. NOTHING in this world can satisfy us apart from God. Not money, not a husband, not a wife, not a career, not a house, not a good joke, nothing. Sure, God uses those things to bless us and enable us to carry out His will. But if we search to build up those things for ourself, apart from God, we search in vain. We must ask the Lord to help us make Him our number one priority. When we do that, everything else will fall into place in God's perfect timing.
One of my favorite praise songs, although simple, reminds me of this:
"Oh how I need You Lord
You are my only hope
You’re my only prayer.
So I will wait for You
To come and rescue me
To come and give me life."
Are we waiting for the Lord, or are we building up a life for ourselves?
